Bench Making
Spend three days in the Sussex woodland learning green woodworking techniques and make a beautiful handcrafted bench to enhance your home. Using solid, locally grown hardwoods to create your bench, finished and oiled, ready to take home and show off.
During the course you will learn several interesting and unusual woodworking techniques:
– Cleave wood with axe and maul
– Use a bodging axe
– Use a shaving horse and draw knife
– Use a spokeshave and travisher
– Master complex multi-angle assembly
You will predominantly be working with locally sourced green wood. Green wood is soft and easy to work and does not produce dust while working. This negates the need for masks and extractor fans making green woodworking safer and more enjoyable.
By the end of the 3 day course you will not only have mastered the above techniques, you will also be able to go home with an heirloom quality bench to be proud of. All abilities are catered for. The cost of the course is £245, this includes all tuition, all tools and materials.
Food:
Vegetarian/vegan lunches are provided. We usually have a wholesome vegan soup with bread freshly baked on site and a vegan salad, as well as cheese, home-made pickles, and fruit.. Plenty of tea and coffee, cakes and flapjack will keep you energised throughout the day.
Accommodation:
Camping in the woods is available at no extra cost . The woods are large and wild and there is plenty of wood for camp fires. Apart from a compost loo there are no amenities. There is space for camper vans too, but not hardstanding and no electric hookups!
There is also a woodland cabin… book the cabin for your course! There is only one, so the first person to book it will have this cosy pad to themselves.
