Make your own Pole Lathe
Make your own pole lathe. We are now offering a two day course which will give you the opportunity to build your own pole lathe, in a beautiful ancient woodland setting. Throughout the course you will be using really chunky, good quality hardwood, to ensure your lathe will last for decades.
The pole lathe is a stunningly clever and simple piece of equipment used for making chair parts and other “turned” items. It is a primitive and ancient device that uses leg power to spin the timber blank so a sharp tool can be held against it and the wood “turned”. The lathe uses a long flexible pole as a return spring, hence the name. It has been used for centuries to make chair parts.
At the end of the course you will take home your very own pole lathe to continue enjoying for years to come. This could be the start of a lifelong passion for green woodwork.
The course runs for 2 days from 10am to 5pm each day with a break at 1pm for a wholesome energy boosting lunch.
The cost of the pole lathe course is £330, this includes all tuition, all tools and materials.
Food
Vegetarian lunches are provided. We usually have a wholesome soup with good local bread and cheese, home-made pickles and fruit.. Plenty of tea and coffee, cakes and flapjack will keep you energised.
Accommodation
Camping in the woods is available at no extra cost. The woods are large and wild and there is plenty of wood for camp fires. Apart from a compost loo there are no amenities. There is space for camper vans too, but not hardstanding and no electric hookups!
There is also a woodland cabin… Be the envy of the pole lathe making group and book the cabin for your course! There is only one cabin so the first person to book it will have this cosy pad to themselves.
