The Coffee Table Course is our brand new course. Spend three days in the Sussex woodland learning green woodworking techniques and make a beautiful handcrafted table to enhance your home. Using solid, locally grown hardwoods create a small table which features a magazine rack, finished and oiled, ready to take home and show off.
At the begining of the coffee table making course you will be able to choose one of our tried-and-tested table designs or modify the design to make a totally unique table. During the course you will learn several interesting and unusual woodworking techniques:
Cleave wood with axe and maul.
Use a bodging axe
Use a shaving horse and draw knife
Use a spokeshave
Master complex multi-angle assembly.
You will be predominantly working with locally sourced green wood. Green wood is soft and easy to work and does not produce dust while working. This negates the need for masks and extractor fans making green woodworking safer and more enjoyable.
By the end of the 3 day course you will not only have mastered the above techniques, you will also be able to go home with a heirloom quality table to be proud of.
All abilities catered for and all tools and materials provided.
The cost of the course is £315, this includes all tuition, all tools and materials.
Vegetarian lunches are provided. We usually have a wholesome soup with good local bread and cheese, home-made pickles and fruit.. Plenty of tea and coffee, cakes and flapjack will keep you energised.
Camping in the woods is available at no extra cost . The woods are large and wild and there is plenty of wood for camp fires. Apart from a compost loo there are no amenities. There is space for camper vans too, but not hardstanding and no electric hookups!
There is also a woodland cabin… Be the envy of the stool making group and book the cabin for your course! There is only one cabin so the first person to book it will have this cosy pad to themselves.
Alternatively you can check out AirBnB for some great local accommodation during your course
