Make your own Shave Horse

The two-day shave horse course teaches a wide range of green woodworking techniques whilst making your own traditional green wood shaving horse using hardwood timber sourced within the local area.

A shaving (or shave) horse is a leg-operated clamp that is designed to be used in combination with a draw knife. The user sits astride the horse and clamps the work piece by pushing the feet forwards while drawing the blade towards themselves. This sounds dangerous but it’s actually very hard to cut yourself when using it in the correct way.

By the end of the 2 day course you will be able to go home with a solid hardwood shave horse to be proud of. The shave horse will be the backbone of your green woodwork projects.

The course runs for 2 days from 10am to 5pm each day with a break at 1pm for a wholesome energy boosting lunch.

All abilities catered for and all tools and materials provided.

The cost of the course is £365, this includes all tuition, all tools and materials.

Food:

Vegetarian/vegan lunches are provided. We usually have a wholesome vegan soup with bread freshly baked on site and a vegan salad, as well as cheese, home-made pickles, and fruit.. Plenty of tea and coffee, cakes and flapjack will keep you energised throughout the day.

Accommodation:

Camping in the woods is available at no extra cost . The woods are large and wild and there is plenty of wood for camp fires. Apart from a compost loo there are no amenities.

There is also a woodland cabin…book the cabin for your course! There is only one, so the first person to book it will have this cosy pad to themselves.
